GARRETT WHITMAN

Growing up in Cypress, CA, Garrett played many sports. Coming from an athletic family, competition and skill progression came naturally. He began training jiu jitsu in 2007 under then brown belt Professor Mike Tomacelli in Costa Mesa, California. At the time, he was a competitive golfer who had played throughout high school and into college with dreams of playing professionally. All that changed with his introduction to the gentle art.

In 2010, Garrett, then a blue belt, was given the opportunity to assist in the kids program at Tomacelli Academy. This proved to be a defining moment in his life as he began to devote more time and effort into his own training. In 2017 Garrett was awarded his Black Belt by Professor Mike Tomacelli 4th Degree, under the Lineage of Master Joe Moreira 8th Degree Coral Belt.

“Having the chance to touch people’s lives through Jiu Jitsu is something I take seriously and am grateful for. I know that the lessons I’ve learned from it can help others and I know I need help to learn more lessons myself. The community that a jiu jitsu school provides makes it more than just a place to learn how to defend yourself. It becomes a place where we learn more about ourselves. I am thankful each and every day that I am so blessed to wake and teach jiu jitsu.”

Garrett is happily married to his wife Bella and a proud father of their son Roka. These days you can find Garrett surfing, golfing, teaching or training jiu jitsu, spending time with family, or cooking in a sauna.

BRANDON GROSS

Brandon started training Jiu-Jitsu shortly after graduating from high school in 2007. He is an active competitor in the local Jiu-Jitsu scene, and earned his black belt in November 2021 at K-Team Martial arts under professor Kimo Kreis and the lineage of Relson Gracie.

A graduate of Castle High school in Kaneohe, Brandon earned a degree in business administration from Hawaii Pacific University in 2011.

“I am so blessed to have had so many great coaches and mentors over the years. From music, to baseball, church, and Jiu-Jitsu I want to make a positive impact on others by giving back. I realize how important it is to have good role models in life.”

Brandon is happily married to his beautiful wife Michelle and the proud father of his precious daughter Eliana and son Tobias. Brandon spends much of his time hanging out with friends and family, training/teaching Jiu Jitsu, and serving the Lord through ministry. His parents Rob & Barb Gross have been in ministry for over 30 years and are the Senior Pastors of Mountain View Community Church.

Brandon has also served as a drummer on Mountain View's worship team, small group leader, youth ministry leader, and Pastor Intern.
